Lady Contortionist , Rhyl Seafront boarded up buildings 1998

This was origianlly a quick snap taken while I was working at Glan Clwyd Hospital, just before they tore the whole thing down. The fairground was about to be demolished for housing and a grassy green, so I took A few photos of the old fairground before it was too late. The lady depicted had been partially broken up, hence her shape, and used to board up windows of amusement arcades that were marked for destruction. There was a very good pub as you came out of the station at Rhyl. The boozer near the station was called the Bee Hive, it was packed on Saturdays as a sea of red shirts watching Liverpool play. That is no longer there, but the new owners have retained the pub windows, the front door of which has a bee embossed upon it. Times have changed, as they do. At that time, a lot of people were speaking welsh in North Wales at that point, much less now I think. You could only hear Welsh on the train, in some places now it's usual just to hear English, Scouse accents. (I'm living back up here in Kinmel Bay) Sone of the funfair survived, and was relocated, as you will see in future photos but sadly, not these hand painted wooden hoardings.
Verns Amusements was a blast from the 1950s, the building has survived but the old signage has deapert I did a few takes of this photo of LAdy Contortionist with the natural colours and some poster art.
Posterized here.
And here she, is the natural tones of her weather faded hoarding. As with everything on the coast a combination of sunshine, wind, easalt, and sandstorms in particular reshapes pretty much everything that stands still. A bicycle for example is a goner for rust if not kept under cover. Any enquiries for use, please get in touch.
